what reasons can kids become emancipated minors?
Q. i'm 23 so this is purely out of curiosity.. can the only reason be that they have money to maintain themselves or does there have to be a serious reason??
Asked by a lady - Sun Jun 28 20:17:40 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Pregancy and parenthood always emancipates those below 18, to a point. So does marriage. Being able to prove to a court of law that you can support yourself is also grounds for emanicpation...or if you graduate from high school before your 18th birthday...a diploma allows you to enroll in college without your parents permission.

Emancipated minors and abortion?
Q. I can't seem to find very much information on abortion laws for emancipated minors. What are most laws like for that? It looks like there are different laws in some states, though...somewhere I read that if a judge finds them mature enough, then she won't need permission or her parents won't be required. I also read in another state that if she's married, she doesn't need any of that...
Asked by kenderbytucky - Tue Mar 11 19:43:27 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In many states you don't have to be emancipated to get an abortion. You need to research by state though. Abortion laws for minors are still in the states hands. If you're not finding very much it could be because you need to search specifically for your state. Or go to actual abortion sites. They usualy have information for minors.

How can minors be emancipated in the UK?
Q. What conditions have to be met? How do you get things rolling legally? ( In the UK.)
Asked by infotrooper - Fri Feb 1 05:29:52 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Emancipation is not a word we use much in the UK. You can vote at 18 and that's that. If you choose to get involved in politics before that, then that's okay, just don't expect to be counted. Kids have too many rights in the UK as it is. Equal rights are age related and nothing else, so waiting is the answer. Everyone has to follow the same procedure. Is there another question to follow this, or is it just a general query?

Q. Do child labor laws apply to emancipated minors?
Asked by Ellie - Tue Jul 27 10:43:26 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes they do. Actually emancipation confers relatively few rights in the grand scheme of things. You are out from under the control of your parents, but for other purposes (such as federal and state labor laws, drivers license, age to drink, smoke, vote) an emancipated minor is still considered a minor. You can, however, apply for a work permit as an emancipated minor. However, you would have to adhere to state law re: working hours, etc.

A. Nope. You have to be 21 to get a permit for a hand gun and 18 for rifle and shotgun. Emancipated does not automatically make you qualify for guns. Its an age limit not an "adult limit"

A. Any bank will provided your credit, job and income is enough to meet their standards. I live in Sacramento area (Lincoln) so i know the local banks!! Try Golden 1, I heard they are pretty good about giving out loans. If they say no, tell them your situation and ask what to do, they might have some advice.

Q. i need a 2,000 dollar loan for the amount that'll be left after i pay half of it. Which banks recoginize emancipated minors and will give them a loan. I think i have an average credit score ie i pay all my bills on time. My husband is 21 but his credit is shot so he may not qualify even for a 2k loan he didnt qualify for a 7k loan by far! And that was before it got messed up alot more. Emancipated means i become an adult and can sign a contract!

A. Most likely not...if you are under the age of 18, you are not considered a legal adult in most states and as such, cannot sign a binding contract.

Would a company hire an emancipated minor despite age restrictions?
Q. Do you think a company with an age requirement of 18 would hire an emancipated minor, given that he or she is qualified for the job?
Asked by babycakes - Thu Jul 1 00:46:59 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Not possible. Being emancipated only means that you may live on your own at your own expense, and no longer need to live with your parents/legal guardians or have to go into foster care under the supervision of the court. You are still subject to ALL other laws & regulations regarding work conditions, age for drivers licenses and restrictions on working, driving, and everything else. As for company restrictions or policies on minimum hiring ages, emanicipation by the court is totally irrelevant. If policy is 18, then 18 it is. The govt sets minimum requirements; companies, other employers, establishments, etc, can set higher standards than govt minimums.

Can an minor be emancipated through marriage?
Q. In the state of georgia marriage without out parental consent at the age of 16 is legal, if pregnant. If a minor from California was to be married in Georgia, and return to California pregnant and married would they be able to assume position as an emancipated minor?
Asked by Marina - Tue Feb 26 14:23:06 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Marina you now need clarification on what is a valid marriage in that state. who can marry in georgia the minimum age for marriage is 16 years for males and females with parental consent; after age 18, parental consent is not required). The parent or guardian must appear in person and give consent if the bride or groom is 16 or 17. In 2006, the state legislature eliminated the loophole in state law that allowed couples of any age to get married without parental consent in the case of pregnancy. This change was the result of the case of a 37 year-old woman who married a 15 year-old boy after she became pregnant. Despite her marriage, she was still sentenced to 9 months in jail for statutory rape.

A. it depends on what state you live in. the age of consent varies among states from 16-18 years old. does not matter if the minor is emancipated - if he is thinking to become sexually involved with a woman who is considered a legal adult, then that is statutory rape if he is under the age of consent. remember - statutory rape applies to sexual relationships - does not mean they cannot date.
